Understanding your balance, charges and refunds

How prepaid billing works on StreamBoost, what the ledger records, and what is and is not refundable.

StreamBoost is prepaid. You add funds, orders spend them, and every movement in either direction is written down. There is no subscription, no monthly minimum and no account fee — this article covers what that means in practice.

The balance

Your balance is held in integer cents. That is a deliberate implementation choice rather than a detail: money represented as a decimal fraction accumulates rounding error, and a balance that drifts by a cent per transaction is a balance nobody can reconcile.

Funds do not expire. There is no inactivity fee and nothing is deducted for holding a balance.

Adding funds

Presets are $5, $10, $25, $50 and $100, or you can enter any custom amount between $1 and $1,000. The upper bound exists so that a mistyped amount cannot open a charge far larger than intended.

MethodHow it credits
Card, via StripeUsually immediately, once the processor confirms.
Cryptocurrency, where enabledOnce the network confirms the transaction. Timing and network fees are outside StreamBoost's control.

The ledger

Every movement of your balance is written to a ledger entry in the same database transaction that changes the balance. Nothing can move your balance without leaving a row, which means your ledger and your balance cannot disagree.

Billing shows both your payments and that ledger, so you can trace any figure back to the thing that caused it.

Your top-ups, charges and refunds, in order:

What happens when you order

The quoted amount is deducted when the order is placed, not when it completes. The charge and the order record are created together, so money never moves without an order to account for it.

If an order is definitively rejected at the moment of placement — an invalid target, an invalid quantity — the charge is reversed immediately and you are told why.

Refunds

  • Refunds are credited to your StreamBoost balance, not back to your original payment method.
  • Every refund appears in the ledger like any other movement.
  • Delivered quantity is not refundable. An order that delivered part of what was requested is assessed on what actually arrived.
  • A refund can only be issued once per order. Repeating the request cannot double-credit it.

Cancelled and refunded orders stay visible

Neither cancelling nor refunding removes an order. The record is retained with its price, its delivered quantity and its timeline, because a financial history with gaps in it is not a financial history.

If a top-up has not appeared

  1. 1Check Billing — confirmed payments appear in the ledger.
  2. 2For cryptocurrency, allow time for network confirmation.
  3. 3If a payment is confirmed on the processor's side but still missing here, open a ticket with the payment reference.
